About
Built by a Runner, for Runners.
Breakthrough Distance Project was built on the belief that every athlete has more in them than they realize.

Meet Ryan
Coach, athlete, and student of the sport.
Ryan North is a competitive distance runner and coach from Carroll, Iowa. As a student athlete at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, Ryan competes in both track and cross country while pursuing a dual major in Biology and Spanish, with plans to attend medical school after graduation.
The Breakthrough Distance Project was founded on a simple philosophy: training should be built on data, not guesswork. Too many athletes follow programs that were not designed for them, train at the wrong intensities, and never reach their actual potential. Ryan built this business to fix that.
Every athlete who works with Breakthrough Distance Project gets a plan that is built specifically for them, coaching that adapts to real life, and access to testing that reveals exactly how their body responds to training. The goal is not just to help athletes run faster. It is to help them understand their own physiology, train with purpose, and build confidence that carries into every race.
Credentials, certifications, and additional background will be updated before launch.
The Philosophy
Training should be built on data. Not guesswork.
Individualization
No two athletes are the same. Your training, your testing, and your coaching are all built around you specifically.
Data Over Intuition
Gut feelings and generic paces are not enough. We use testing and objective metrics to make every training decision with confidence.
Long-Term Development
Short-term results matter. Long-term athletic development matters more. We build athletes who improve season after season.
